The Active Play PALA+ Challenge is a collaborative effort between the entertainment software industry and the President’s Council to strive to harness the excitement surrounding active video games to provide a long-term, sustainable approach in establishing healthy lifestyles by making video game screen time truly “active.” Active gaming is a great way to work towards earning your Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA+), and PALA+ is a great tool to motivate and track activity levels to help you live a healthier lifestyle!

PALA+ is the next phase of PALA (Presidential Active Lifestyle Award), a program of the President’s Challenge, designed to motivate Americans to make physical activity and healthy eating part of their everyday life. The physical activity requirements for Harley Pasternak’s Hollywood Workout are listed below.

EXPLORE THESE TIPS FOR EATING WELL

The nutrition component requires participants to add a weekly healthy eating goal and build upon these goals throughout the six week-period.

  • Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.
  • Make half the grains you eat whole grains.
  • Choose fat-free or low-fat (1%) milk, yogurt, or cheese.
  • Drink water instead of sugary drinks.
  • Choose lean sources of protein.
  • Compare sodium in foods like soup and frozen meals and choose foods with less sodium.
  • Eat some seafood.
  • Pay attention to portion size.

Individuals who achieve the physical activity and healthy eating goals will receive a certificate signed by PCFSN Co-chairs and are able to purchase a certificate signed by the President of the United States.

Adult and Youth activity options:

Adults will do one full course to fulfill the 30 minute requirement. Younger participants can do the course twice to satisfy 60 minutes.

Harley Pasternak’s Hollywood Workout

The game follows the 5 factor format of 25 minutes a day, 5 days a week, with 5 minutes of cardio, 5 minutes of upper body, 5 minutes of core, 5 minutes of lower body, and 5 minutes of warm down.
